COURSES

Courses are designed to lead to a student being ordained or licensed to an authorised ministry in the Church of England.  Other students are welcome to take the courses as well, but not all parts are available to independent students - in particular the periods of residential training.

Training for both Ordinands and Reader students generally takes three years and will lead to the award of either a Diploma or a Certificate  in Higher Education in Christian Theology and Ministry  from the University of Gloucestershire.  Students with significant prior qualifications can also study for a BA (honours) degree in Applied Theology.  This can also be added to the WEMTC course by students later in life when they feel ready.

The emphasis is on training for ministry and so nearly half of the course is directed towards formation and competency in ministry. Placements play a significant role in the training and candidates for licensing as ministers either lay or ordained take these modules.  Other candidates may do more taught modules, but the emphasis is always on practical application of theology to ministry.
